Official Centers are asked to maintain essential technical and operational standards, including:
- reliable internet connectivity, so connected treadmills work consistently and support the RUN X experience
- well functioning equipment, with treadmills kept in good working condition and ready for use
- correct equipment placement, following the equipment user manual and installation guidelines, including keeping the required safety space behind each treadmill clear.
- regular maintenance, which is strongly recommended to maintain performance, reduce downtime, and extend equipment lifespan
Even without a Skillrun treadmill, Official Centers can still:
- host Qualifications to allow participants to train and compete for a place in Regionals
- offer year‑round RUN X participation, including access to the Open Leaderboard for training and ongoing engagement
A RUN X Specialist—trained and certified by World Athletics, Technogym, and sport performance experts—is a personal trainer or staff member of an Official Center who supports and oversees certified runs on Qualification Days during Qualifications and Regionals. They ensure that each run is conducted in line with official competition rules and that the results are correctly recorded. In practice, a RUN X Specialist:
- prepares for Qualifications Days, verifying runner identities, treadmill login, and readiness before the start
- supervises 5K runs to ensure a neutral competition environment and that runners use treadmills correctly and abide by the rules
- confirms and records results, supporting runners with next steps
- monitors safety and equipment, checking that treadmills work properly and stopping runs if necessary for safety reasons

RUN X is structured in three stages. The first two, Qualifications and Regionals, take place at Official RUN X Centers on compatible Technogym treadmills, while the World Finals are held in-person at an iconic location.
- - Stage 1 – Qualifications: After joining the championship, all runners can enter the Global Leaderboard by completing a certified 5K run on a compatible Technogym treadmill at a RUN X Official Center. Qualifying runs take place on specific Qualification Days.
- - Stage 2 – Regionals: This is the continent-level stage when the top 25% of runners in each category following Qualifications advance to compete for a spot in the World Finals.
- - Stage 3 – World Finals: The in‑person, end‑of‑season event where the top runners in each category following Regionals compete for the world title and a share of the prize pool.
Throughout the year, RUN X participants can complete non-competitive training runs that are ranked on the Open Leaderboard. This always-on leaderboard is designed to extend the RUN X experience, help runners prepare for the competitive phases of the championship, and encourage friendly competition.
