RUN X: Everything you need to know about the competition

The inaugural RUN X™ World Treadmill Championship officially gets underway from 23 October, with 400+ fitness centres across 20 countries ready to host the qualification phase of this groundbreaking global running competition, features a $100,000 prize pool, three phases of competition and official age-group roll-down rules.

Phase 1

QUALIFICATIONS

OCTOBER 23, 2026–JANUARY 24, 2027

Complete a certified 5K run on connected Technogym treadmills at any RUN X Official Center.

RACE FREQUENCY

Runners have one certified attempt per race day.
Multiple attempts are permitted throughout Qualifications so runners can improve their time, with only the single fastest time counting toward the official global leaderboard.

PHASE 3

RUN X GRAND FINALE

MARCH 20–21, 2027

Live World Finals hosted at Technogym Village in Cesena, Italy on 10 synchronized Skillrun treadmills running side by side.

RACE FREQUENCY
One single race run to crown the World Champions. Separate Finals for the Absolute Category and each Age Group Category.

HOW RUNNERS ADVANCE FROM QUALIFICATIONS TO REGIONALS

The top 25% in each competitive category ranked by by biological sex, age group, and World Athletics territory advances to the Regional showdown, while, while the remaining 75% step off the competitive leaderboard, keeping access to RUN X training sessions
All official qualifying attempts will be run on connected Technogym treadmills located in authorized RUN X Official Centers. Athletes can log up to 1 certified run per Qualification Day.
Multiple attempts can be made throughout Qualifications to improve run times. Only the single fastest time counts toward the official global leaderboard.

The Road to the World Finals: How runners advance

RUN X World Finals qualifiers (Absolute Category — Top 10 Men and Top 10 Women Worldwide):
- 6 regional winners: The fastest runner from each World Athletics territory (Africa, Asia, Europe, NACAC, Oceania, South America).
- 3 next-fastest globally: The next 3 fastest times worldwide, regardless of territory.
- 1 host country wildcard: The fastest runner representing the host nation (Italy).

AGE GROUPS & THE ROLL-DOWN SYSTEM

Age qualification is anchored strictly to a runner's age on December 31 of the competition year, ensuring consistent, balanced categories throughout the season.
Regardless of whether a runner enters with the primary goal of competing in the Absolute Category or within their specific Age Group, every registered time is evaluated across both leaderboards. Participating in an age category never restricts a runner from qualifying for the premier Absolute Final.

The ROLL-DOWN RULE

When a runner's qualifying time earns a berth in both the Absolute division and their respective Age Group, default progression places them in the Absolute Final.
The runner retains the option to decline the Absolute berth in favor of competing exclusively within their Age Group. If an athlete chooses to remain in their Age Group, their vacated position in the Absolute Final is automatically reassigned to the next fastest eligible runner on the global leaderboard.
