RUN X RULES






RUN X is the first-ever World Treadmill Championship, a global 5K competition created by Technogym and World Athletics. It aims to build a global community of runners, promoting inclusivity, accessibility, connection, and innovation in fitness and sport.Here are the rules of RUN X:

I. General Championship Overview

  • Purpose: RUN X is a global 5K indoor running competition that connects elite and amateur runners worldwide using Technogym’s connected ecosystem.
  • Format: It is an amateur, non-competitive tournament run over an official distance of 5,000 meters (5K).
  • Official Endorsement: The competition is officially endorsed by World Athletics, ensuring certified results. Results are validated by World Athletics.
  • Technology: The competition leverages cutting-edge technology to transform traditional running into a connected, immersive experience.

II. Participant Eligibility and Registration

  • Age Requirement: Participation is open to all athletes, male and female, who are 18 years of age or older. Minors under 18 cannot participate in RUN X.
  • Health and Compliance: Participants must declare themselves to be in good health, comply with applicable local regulations regarding health certificates or waivers, and fully accept the championship rules and terms of participation upon registration.
  • Registration Process:
    • Athletes must register via the official website, www.runx.org, or through the dedicated app/treadmill console to create a "RUN X ID".
    • During the registration, athletes must confirm their nationality, birthdate and sex in order to be placed into a category for the competition. The Athlete won’t be able to change this after and, if incorrect information were give, the Athlete may be disqualified.
    • After registration, the runner identifies an Official Center where they intend to compete.
    • Before running, athletes must ensure all necessary documents are submitted to the center to comply with local regulations.
    • The access to the race is free for runners. However, access to the affiliated center is subject to the center's rules.
  • Categories: Competitions are divided by gender and age groups, according to World Athletics criteria: 18-23, 24-35, 36-45, 46-55, 56-65, 66-75, and Over 75. The age for classification is based on years completed by December 31st of the competition year.

III. Competition Phases

RUN X proceeds through three phases:
  1. Qualifications (Phase 1) - from 27/04/2026 till 09/05/2026
    • Timing and Location: Athletes can participate in any qualification day selected by their own Official center within the time period considered. Athlete can also participate in more than one official centre.
    • Attempts: Runners can record one attempt per qualification day during the official race windows.
    • Top 25%: The best certified performance by each participant determines qualification for Phase 2. Only the top 25% per category (namely age group, sex and country) will be able to move to the next stage.
  2. Regionals (Phase 2) - from 13/05/2026 till 23/05/2026:
    • Who: The top 25% of athletes from each nation, age group, and gender, based on their best certified time from the Nationals, advance to this phase.
    • How: the modality remains the same as above, with the only difference in Attempts
    • Attempts: Participants can record only one qualifying attempt during the entire Regionals phase.
  3. World Finals (Phase 3) - 03/06/2026:
    • Timing and Location: this will be hosted at the Technogym Village in Cesena, from 18:00-20:00
    • Participants: The top runner (M/F) from each club will be able to participate in the final. For Runners coming for abroad, Technogym will be in touch for supporting your travel plans.

IV. Equipment Requirements

  • Qualifications (Phase 1): Runners can compete on any connected Technogym treadmill (Excite, Artis, or Skillrun models) equipped with a Technogym Live interface (UNITY 4.0 or 10'' console) and a dedicated "RUN X" tile.
  • Regionals (Phase 2): Competitions are valid only on Technogym Skillrun treadmills to ensure high performance standards.
  • World Finals (Phase 3): Skillrun treadmills are used.

V. Runner Conduct and Fair Play

  • Login: Runners must log in to the Technogym treadmill with their RUN X ID to record a valid result.
  • Conduct During Race:
    • Use the treadmill correctly as instructed by the RUN X Specialist.
    • Follow instructions from the RUN X Specialist and center personnel.
    • Immediately stop the run if feeling unwell or injured, using the emergency stop button if necessary.
    • Prohibited Actions (leading to invalidation of results): Using unauthorized aids, leaning on sidebars/screen/external supports, running off the belt, setting negative inclination, or alternating with other individuals in a relay format.
  • Account Integrity: Runners are responsible for their ID and credentials. Allowing third-party use or manipulating performance data is forbidden and can lead to result annulment and disqualification.
  • Liability Waiver: Runners indemnify RUN X/Technogym, World Athletics, and Affiliated Centers from liability for damages resulting from physical condition, equipment misuse, rule violations, or inherent sports risks, except in cases of fraud or gross negligence.
  • Complaints: Any complaints about race results must be submitted in writing to the Affiliated Center within 48 hours of the event.

VI. Scoring and Leaderboards

  • Real-time Tracking: Results are automatically certified and update an online leaderboard, categorized by sex, age group, and territory.
  • Dashboard: During a run, an immersive dashboard displays real-time performance parameters like cadence, heart rate, speed, distance, and estimated finish time. Speed can be adjusted via a quickpad.
  • Precision: Time is measured to a tenth of a second.
  • Visibility: Leaderboards are accessible via the RUN X website and app. The global leaderboard distinguishes between certified and non-certified results.

VII. Prizes

By participating in this beta test, you will be able to have your chance to get to Cesena, at Technogym HQ to live one day as a RUN X Finalist and run the Beta final in front of hundreds of people.
